Writing
Notes on what I’m building, while I’m building it. Usually written after something broke.
- gamemood-stopped-asking-what-you-wantedchangelog
Gamemood stopped asking what you wanted
Check-in used to make you declare a goal before it would log anything, and every public number was grouped by that declaration. Nothing ever checked whether it came true.
- gamemood-can-tell-you-what-happenedchangelog
Gamemood can tell you what happened
Check in on two scales, play, check out, and get a reading of what the game did to you. The loop the whole app was a frame for.
- gamemood-has-a-front-doorchangelog
Gamemood has a front door
gamemood.actuallyfrank.io is a real host now, serving an app that does almost nothing on purpose.
- nobody-can-read-your-sessionschangelog
Nobody can read your sessions
Gamemood now knows what a game is, what a session is, and who is allowed to read one. The answer to the last is: only you.
- the-homepage-says-what-shippedchangelog
The homepage says what shipped
The apex card full of TODOs is gone. What replaced it is generated from these posts, so the homepage can only say things the blog already said.
- eight-posts-came-homechangelog
Eight posts came home
The writing stranded in the old site's repository moved here — converted, not copied, because none of it was drop-in.
- the-blog-got-fastchangelog
The blog got fast
Opening a post took the better part of ten seconds. It was one line of code in the layout, and now the blog is static HTML on a CDN.
- there-is-a-blog-nowchangelog
There is a blog now
blog.actuallyfrank.io went up: MDX files in the repo, an index, a post page, and no account required to read any of it.
- one-place-to-sign-inchangelog
One place to sign in
Sign-in moved into a single app at account.actuallyfrank.io, and every other app stopped carrying its own copy of it.
- the-commit-gate-is-a-hook-nowchangelog
The commit gate is a hook now
The rule that said 'run the tests before committing' became a pre-commit hook that runs them for you and refuses the commit when they fail.
- the-header-says-where-you-arechangelog
The header says where you are
The wordmark now reads 'actuallyfrank blog' on the blog, and links to the blog index instead of walking you off the site.
